Just like we are prone to rant about added sugar, you’ll find we love to go on and on about coconut oil. Tis’ the season for chronic, dry skin, and if you’re looking for the solution, look no further than your health food store.
Virgin coconut oil (cold pressed is best!) has been shown in research to be one of the most effective moisturizers for the skin. Not only does it do wonders for skin hydration and surface lipid levels (it absorbs well and doesn’t feel heavy), it has antibacterial properties, too.
Coconut oil has been shown to clear up to 95% of staphylococcal colonization in patients with atopic dermatitis. That’s pretty impressive for something not born in a laboratory.
Just be careful; like everything out there, coconut oil might be an allergen for some people. Test a small spot of skin before slathering it all over yourself.
And guys–if you’re embarrassed to go into the skin care section of the pharmacy, this may become your secret weapon for glorious skin.
